Most bad mornings are lost in the first ten minutes, scrolling in bed. Here is a routine with three steps. It takes no willpower once it is set up.
Step 1: Phone out of reach
Charge your phone in another room or in a drawer. If it is on the nightstand you will check it. Every notification you read before you start pulls your attention toward someone else's priorities.
Step 2: Drink a glass of water
You have gone seven or eight hours without a drink. Put a full glass by the bed or the kettle the night before and drink it before anything else. It is the easiest win of the day.
Step 3: One protected work block
Pick the one task that matters most and do it first. No email, no messages.
- Write down your top three tasks the night before.
- Set a timer for 45 to 90 minutes.
- Clear the desk. Less clutter, fewer distractions.
- Silence or instrumental music, whichever works for you. Pick one and stick with it.
Why it works
Doing the same thing at the same time every day trains your brain to expect focus then. After a couple of weeks, starting gets easier because you no longer have to decide anything.
Where coffee and supplements fit
Last, not first. They are add-ons to sleep, water and a plan, not substitutes. If you drink coffee, have it after the water and before the work block. Keep it to the morning so it does not cut into your sleep.
If you want one morning step to go with the routine, Wake Up Smart is our two-capsule focus formula built for that first work block.
